B. Braun Vista Basic Infusion Pump
The B. Braun Vista Basic is a robust volumetric infusion pump built to deliver parenteral and enteral fluids with accuracy and reliability. It’s designed as a workhorse for the outpatient market, making it suitable for a range of therapies—including continuous, piggyback, and program modes—while also supporting cost-effective, straight-line gravity sets. The device is operated via a membrane keypad and sports an easy-to-read liquid crystal display that shows the delivery rate and operating support.
Key features include:
-
Rugged, Durable Design:
The pump’s mechanical components are built to last. Its linear peristaltic mechanism ensures smooth, consistent infusion even in busy clinical settings. -
Versatile Operation:
It can function as a stand-alone unit or be integrated into an intensive care unit. The Vista Basic is user-friendly, making it easy to teach, learn, and operate. -
Integrated Safety and Monitoring:
A drop sensor eliminates the need to pre-set a VTBD in continuous mode, while also detecting upstream occlusions and empty solution containers. This helps to ensure that any issues are caught early to maintain safe infusion therapy. -
Reliable Battery Backup:
The built-in nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery provides at least 3 hours of operation at higher delivery rates, ensuring continuous therapy even during power interruptions. -
Flexible Infusion Rates:
- With intrafix tubing: 0.1 to 999.9 mL/hr
- With Vista Pump Set: 0.1 to 800 mL/hr
The KVO rate is set at 1 mL/hr or the selected rate, whichever is lower, with a flow rate accuracy of ±5% under specified conditions.
-
Comprehensive Alarm System:
The pump offers alarms for Air-in-Line, Low Battery, Plug In Now, Bag Empty, Downstream Occlusion, Door Open, Pump Stopped, KVO, and Unit Malfunction. The Air-in-Line alarm can be adjusted in service from detecting a bubble size as low as 0.01 mL up to 0.3 mL, or set in a rate format from 0.5 to 3.5 mL/hr. -
Multiple Modes and Features:
It supports Continuous and Piggyback Modes, a Program Mode for variable infusions, Ramp/Taper Mode (ideal for TPN infusions), and Delay A Mode, which postpones the start and finish of an infusion. Additionally, there’s an option to retain the last data used in Continuous and Piggyback Modes upon power-up, while Program and Ramp/Taper Modes maintain permanent data retention even after the pump is turned off.
